How Tight Should a Ring Terminal Fit the Stud?

Also check the outside diameter and shape of the ring tongue. A hole may fit the stud while the tongue itself interferes with a nearby wall, terminal, or insulating barrier.

Does ring terminal color tell me the stud size?
No. Color normally identifies a wire-gauge range. Stud size is a separate specification.
Can I use a 3/8-inch ring on a 1/4-inch stud?
An oversized ring may physically fit over the stud, but that does not make it the preferred match. Use an opening sized for the mounting hardware whenever possible.
